Is Kendall motor oil any good? - AR15.COM
Jan 10, 2008 · I drive like an old man and my engines always last the 8-10 years that I keep the car, so I see no reason to pay a premium for oil. If you like to put demands on your engine, you might be better off with a better oil. I don't think I've ever floored the gas pedal on my 8-year old car, so I don't see the need for the best oil, only an adequate oil.

Oct 18, 2024 · Of course modern oil and filters are better, so is the drivetrain, but outside of monitored conditions (like FT says, analysis, very good quality oils to start with, structured maintenance, etc) it seems a moderately risky blanket to throw. At least the better oil life computer systems have some logic thrown into it to take account of conditions.
Motor oil as lube - AR15.COM
Sep 7, 2018 · A lot of anti-wear agents, anti-corrosives, excellent boundary-layer lubrication, high dispersant agent content, ATF has a *lot* of things going for it that make it incredibly well-suited to being a firearms lubricant. The only real downside to it vs. motor oil is that motor oil is made for much higher temperatures.
Pros and Cons to using Motor Oil as Lubricant? - AR15.COM
Apr 13, 2015 · I jumped on the Mobil 1 wagon a few years ago. Motor oil makes a mess in the long run if you don't like to clean your gun very often. I maybe clean my AR a couple times a year which is usually a few thousand rounds. I like SLip 2000 EWL because it stays wet and doesn't turn into an oxidized, sticky, sludgy mess like motor oil does.
Oil question: Titanium additive in Kendall the same as Castrol ...
Sep 19, 2019 · But I do believe they still use the original formulations. Etc. it’s not a bad classic car oil. Kendall Competition 20w50. 1200ish ppm of zinc. Would be about the same as the VR1 20w50. Also has the titanium additive for further anti wear. I’m a big Kendall fan, so this would be my go to for a conventional group 2 product, with high zinc.

A question for those who use motor oil as a gun lubricant
Aug 17, 2017 · I don't recommend using oil to clean anything. Years ago when I used motor grease, I would still use Hoppes No 9 to clean everything. Once everything got cleaned, then I used the automotive grease in areas that I want. Depending on the weight of the oil, I'd imagine it could create a hazard especially if it collects a lot of debris prior to firing.
Is Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil a Good Gun Lube? - AR15.COM
Oct 7, 2014 · Interestingly enough, Joe talked about this. He said to really test an oil would require setting up a test with a bolt carrier group, oil it with whatever oil you are testing, and have a machine run it through a cycle about 15 thousand times. Then disassemble and measure wear on the parts. Sounds kind of boring.
