The Port Of Nome is the forefront of America's Arctic; it is uniquely positioned to advance national interests in the region, while strengthening the economic pillars of western Alaska.

Port traffic has increased exponentially since 1990. A growing number of commercial & private vessels transit the nearby Bering Strait, using Nome for resupply. From 2012-2021, the Port averaged 59,259 tons of rock, sand, and gravel; 31,156 tons of cargo; and 9.53 million gallons of refined petroleum products.

In partnership with the City of Nome, the district has begun designing modifications to the Port of Nome, locally known as Nome Harbor, to alleviate existing vessel restrictions that are imposed by insufficient channel depths and harbor area.
