A member of the Conservative Party, she has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for East Surrey since 2019. Coutinho previously served in the Cabinet as Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero from August 2023 to July 2024.

I was first elected as the Conservative MP for East Surrey in December 2019. I then served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary in the Treasury before being appointed Minister for Disabled People at the Department for Work and Pensions in September 2022 and Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing at the Department for Education.

The Rt Hon Claire Coutinho is the Conservative MP for East Surrey, and has been an MP continually since 12 December 2019. She currently undertakes the roles of Shadow Minister (Equalities), and Shadow Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
