It is located on Broad Street, above the bridge on Canal Street, also named after the band. Who is Black Sabbath? Black Sabbath are a heavy metal band from Birmingham, formed in 1968.

In 1968, Birmingham, England, bore the scars of World War II bombings, with smokestacks belching black clouds over a working-class landscape. Amid the streets of Aston against this gritty backdrop emerged a quartet of musicians who were a musical force unlike any other.

Mike and Mohammed discussed the idea of naming the canal bridge after the band and creating a bench in tribute to the heavy metal legends. Mohammed co-designed the bench with his friend Tarek Abdelkawi, who illustrated the band. It has been a huge success ever since. View the original sketches…
