Snow and strong winds make their presence felt as the area is under a continued winter storm warning all through the evening.

The NWS Wilmington NC issued a winter storm warning at 2:43 a.m. on Tuesday valid from 9 p.m. until Wednesday 8 a.m. The warning is for Inland Pender, Coastal Pender, Inland New Hanover, Coastal New Hanover,

Prior to the recent flurries, the National Weather Service last recorded snowfall in Wilmington on Jan. 29, 2022 — reporting a total half inch, according to the Wilmington N.C. Snowfall Database. Also, on Jan. 10, a system brought sleet to the area before turning into rain.

The N.C. Department of Transportation held a news conference Tuesday morning to discuss preparation for expected winter weather in the area.

On Wednesday at 7:59 a.m. the NWS Wilmington NC issued a special weather statement in effect until 8 p.m. The alert is for Inland Pender, Coastal Pender, Inland New Hanover, Coastal New Hanover, Inland Brunswick and Coastal Brunswick as well as Robeson,

The chilly temperatures are continuing this week in Greenville and the North Carolina Department of Transportation is getting roads prepared.
