Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett is stepping down. Buffett has made some strong bets, as well as some some investing missteps, over his 55-year career.

Buffett, one of the world’s richest people and most accomplished investors, took control of Berkshire Hathaway in 1965 when it was a textiles manufacturer. He turned the company into a conglomerate by finding other businesses and stocks to buy that were selling for less than they were worth.

Since 1965, Buffett delivered a staggering 5,502,284% return with a 19.9% CAGR, beating the S&P 500 in 20 of the last 30 years. His best year? A 102% return in 1979. His worst? -31.8% in 2008.
