A deadly midair collision between an American Airlines jet and an Army helicopter near the nation's capital is bringing renewed focus on the federal agency charged with investigating aviation disasters.

Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board gave updates on the crash that killed 67 people when a passenger plane collided with an Army helicopter in Washington, D.C., including salvage efforts and the recovered data recorders.
