While known primarily for auto racing, the first event at Bowman Gray was actually a college football game on Oct. 22, 1938, pitting the Duke Blue Devils against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons. Duke snuck past Wake Forest that day by the score of 7-0. Today, the Rams of Winston-Salem State University play their home football games at the stadium.

This weekend marks a historic return to Bowman Gray Stadium with the season-opening NASCAR Cup Series exhibition race on Sunday at 8 p.m., NASCAR’s first return to the historic Bowman Gray Stadium since 1971.

Fox Sports will air an all-new documentary on Monday called " The Madhouse ," which details the history of stock-car racing at Bowman Gray Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The documentary signals the beginning of "Race Week" in the Carolinas for NASCAR's first event of the 2025 season at its longest-running weekly series track.

Burt Myers, the 2024 Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Division Champion, has accumulated 97 wins in the Modified Division along with 11 track championships. Myers will race in Sunday night’s Cook Out Clash in the No. 50 Citrusafe Chevrolet for Team Amerivet in his Cup Series debut.
