The federal Conservatives are amping up criticism of Mark Carney, the Liberal leadership contender they appear to assume will replace Justin Trudeau as their chief opponent in the next federal

Deputy Conservative Leader Melissa Lantsman said Canadians shouldn’t trust Mr. Carney’s pledge to scrap consumer carbon pricing, since he also pledged to increase the industrial carbon levy. That would hit Canadian steel and aluminum plants, industries already facing the threat of 25-per-cent U.S. tariffs, she said.

Carney is spending part of Wednesday in the city with local MP Irek Kusmierczyk (L — Windsor-Tecumseh), who on Tuesday endorsed the former Bank of Canada and Bank of England governor for party leadership. Carney is expected to deliver remarks and answer media questions in the morning.

A spokesperson for Mark Carney's leadership campaign says they've raised more than $1.9 million so far in donations from over 11,000 people.
