5.2-magnitude earthquake strikes San Diego area, jolting Southern California near San Andreas system fault
A preliminary 6.0-magnitude earthquake struck near San Diego, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake's epicenter was recorded 1.86 northeast of San Diego County, in Julian. It is not yet known if there are reports of injuries or damage.

The temblor happened at 10:08 a.m. Pacific time about 2 miles south of Julian, Calif., data from the agency shows. U.S.G.S. data earlier reported that the magnitude was 6.
According to Cal Fire data, San Diego County has 157,338 acres with “very high” fire hazard, the highest level of hazard. In 2011, that figure was more than 180,700 acres.
