One fire remains after three wildfires began earlier this week in McDowell County. The evacuation orders given by the McDowell County Office of Emergency Management were lifted Jan. 30 after an 'out of control' wildfire burned 220 acres.

Two fires are now burning in western North Carolina's McDowell County, just four months after it was hard-hit by Hurricane Helene.

An outside fire has been reported on Bat Cave Road in Old Fort after a tree fell on a power line, local authorities said.

McDowell County Emergency Management said that the wildfire in Old Fort is currently 15% contained, but evacuation orders remain in place. The wildfire, burning in the Crooked Creek community, is estimated to cover 250 acres.

As of 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30, firefighters were continuing burnout operations in McDowell County on the North Fork Fire, which has grown to 200 acres and is 20% contained.

Wildfires continue to burn in McDowell County. The Crooked Creek fire has burned 220 acres and the North Folk fire has burned 60 acres.
