Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s leftwing party has won most seats in the weekend parliamentary election but was left without a majority in the house, forcing it to look for an ally to form the next government.

Vetevendosje won 41.3% of votes with 88% of ballots counted, down from more than 50% in the 2021 poll that brought a Vetevendosje-led coalition to power, results from the election commission showed. The opposition Democratic Party of Kosovo was second with 21.8% and the Democratic League of Kosovo party had 17.8%.

Kosovo faces a post-election deadlock after no party secured a majority in the 120-seat parliament. Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s Vetevendosje won 41.1% of votes but fell short of a majority, while opposition parties rule out coalition talks,
