A massive 7.7 magnitude earthquake has caused buildings to collapse in Thailand and Burma, leaving more than 1,000 dead across both countries.

A 7.7 magnitude earthquake and an aftershock measuring 6.4 rocked Myanmar and neighboring Thailand on Friday, bringing down buildings and disrupting power supplies and transport services.

The U.S. Geological Survey, an American government science agency, estimated that the death toll could top 1,000.
