A small plane crashed while taking off from the Honduran island of Roatan on Monday, leaving 12 people dead. Among the victims was prominent musician and Honduran politician Aurelio Martinez.

Officials who took part in the emergency operations said that five people were rescued. Warnings had been issued for a number of countries including Cuba, Puerto Rico and the Cayman Islands.
