Dana Carvey explains on his and David Spade's "Fly on the Wall" podcast why he wasn't at "SNL50," the 50th anniversary special for “Saturday Night Live.”

Fans noticed Dana Carvey and Dan Aykroyd were not in Studio 8H during the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special. Meanwhile, Steve Martin jokes that the show’s COVID “curse” is real.

"The 40th anniversary [episode] was me walking around stealing things whenever Dana Carvey would put them down," he said on Ego Nwodim's podcast.

Dana Carvey was among the most conspicuous no-shows at Saturday Night Live’s 50th anniversary special this past weekend. And now we know why one of the show’s all-star cast members didn’t make it to New York City.

Like many successes, comedy or otherwise, many people took a bow for Saturday Night Live’s Church Lady. Dana Carvey gets most of the credit, of course, performing a version of the character on his SNL audition tape.

Another notable alum, Bill Hader, was unable to attend the festivities due to a "longstanding schedule conflict," per a rep for the actor. Hader was on the show for eight seasons,
