The risk comes as NOAA Weather Radios across central Alabama will be offline due to a long-planned software upgrade.
*All modes of severe weather are possible over North Alabama with this event. The highest risk of tornadoes is in the “enhanced risk” in any discrete cells that form ahead of the main line. A strong tornado (EF-2 or higher) can’t be ruled out.
The main threats over the weekend will be damaging winds gusting up to 60 mph, large hail up to the size of quarters and heavy rainfall that could result in isolated flooding.
The weather service office in Tallahassee, Fla., which covers part of southeast Alabama, also was also sending a storm survey team today to southeastern Geneva County to look at storm damage there. That storm also tracked through the Florida Panhandle before reaching Alabama.
