Emilia Pérez' star Karla Sofía Gascón has become the first openly transgender actor to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Karla Sofía Gascón became the first-ever openly trans actress nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress. The Spanish actress made film history this year when she, on Thursday, January 23, made it to the announcement list of Best Actress contenders at this year's upcoming 2025 Academy Awards for her recent work in Emilia Pérez.
