The number of suspected deaths in Maharashtra due to Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare nerve disorder, have risen to four, while the tally of cases recorded in the state so far stood at 140, health officials said.

Cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) are on the rise, triggering concern among health officials. As of January 29, a total of three GBS-suspected deaths have been reported in West Bengal, with over 120 cases of the rare autoimmune disease detected in Maharashtra.

The most common symptom is tingling or weakness in arms and legs. It affects muscle control and sensory signals and can begin as difficulty in walking, heaviness of legs, difficulty in sitting or getting up or turning in bed, falls (due to marked weakness), difficulty in using hands.
