Yuki Tsunoda has surprisingly claimed that he wants Red Bull to up the expectations ahead of his debut with the team at Suzuka

Barely three months ago, Yuki Tsunoda’s window to drive for Red Bull Racing in Formula One appeared to have closed. Despite putting forward a strong case through the 2024 season for its sister team, RB, Red Bull passed over Tsunoda when replacing Sergio Pérez. Instead, it promoted Tsunoda’s teammate Liam Lawson into the seat.

But there are a whole host of teams working tirelessly to close the gap. Mercedes star George Russell finished on the podium in both races, while Red Bull 's four-time world champion Max Verstappen can never be discounted, and Lewis Hamilton already has a sprint win under his belt at Ferrari.

Max Verstappen has hinted at a future relationship with Honda after the Japanese engine maker's highly successful partnership with Red Bull finishes at the end of the Formula One season. Honda engines have fired the 27-year-old Dutchman to four successive world titles with Red Bull but from 2026 they will be powering the cars of the Aston Martin team.
