Still, March systems are "quite rare," according to Phil Klotzbach, a hurricane researcher at Colorado State University. Klotzbach said the only tropical cyclone ever recorded over the Atlantic in March was a Category 2 hurricane that hit the Leeward Islands and Caribbean in 1908.

National Hurricane Center forecasters are tracking a system in the Atlantic Ocean months before the 2025 hurricane season officially begins. The disturbance, currently a cluster of disorganized showers and thunderstorms, is being classified as non-tropical and is not likely to develop, the NHC said Monday.
