Batiste, who grew up in Kenner, has a history of hometown warm-up shows ahead of big events. Three nights before he headlined the main stage during the 2023 New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in front of thousands of fans, Batiste played a loose, sweaty show at the Maple Leaf Bar on Oak Street in the Carrollton neighborhood.
