The neighborhood was a bit questionable when the park opened but has been steadily improving. There are usually police or security guards on site, with stated hours of 7AM-11PM and there are security cameras. The main pavilion has good lighting, with dim lighting along the paths. The neighborhood is improving and I would generally feel comfortable alone, during early evening especially, but anywhere with large crowds in close proximity to warehouses and poorer neighborhoods can be risky. I haven't heard of any problems in the last year or two. I don't think I'd hang out on Friday night at 10:30 but it's far more enjoyable during the day anyway.
