Hi, I am planning to visit Akagera National Park next year and I had a question. If I can make it to the entrance of the park and the visitor centre (at Kabarondo), can I join a game drive or any of the other activities without having my own car? It is very hard to know. Our lion population is increasing (now at 22) and sightings are therefore getting more frequent. And although we do have a population of over 100 elephants, they can be difficult to find! You do need time to explore Akagera, i would not say that it is a park to go to and tick off the 'Big Five'. It's strengths are really its inspiring conservation story, spectacular scenic beauty and huge diversity.
I was under the impression that one was able to simply show up and reserve a campsite upon arrival. Is this not the case? I emailed someone from park headquarters (?), and that's what he told me. This post seems to suggest otherwise.
