We came here for NYE and the lake was not frozen. There was no dog sledding, no tobogganing, no tubing. All the restaurants were booked - we ate at a picnic table in the cold with take out Mexican Fo…Full review by Lauren D

The town is nice, though it seems entirely reliant on Olympics and "miracles" that occurred decades ago. The real challenge is the parking. Paying a meter (at a steep price) is one thing, but even …Full review by Jeanbondo07

Q:
How dog friendly is Lake Placid?
A:
I'm not much more help than everyone else. Saw a number of dogs on leashes, saw none actually in restaurants.

Yes, many. There are a number of trails. For the Ironman Event in July they do a 112 mile ride on local roads. There are networks of trails for bicycles at Whiteface Mountain and adjoining complex in Wilmington, along sections of the Jackrabbit Cross Country Ski Trail, at Mt. Von Hovenberg, and on some of the local hiking mountains.(although not allowed on the High Peaks). Try ROOST Tourist Board for both Lake Placid and Saranac Lake options.

The majestic mountains that surround you is, for us, the BEST ‘to see’. Take advantage of them by mapping out a hike... from smaller tails to the highest peaks - whatever level of fitness you are at. Strolling around Mirror Lake you can grab a canoe, pattle boat or standing board. Main Street is full of activity in the summer months... music and fun! There are many delicious restaurants to choose from. Our favorite is Smoke Signals - but a heads up on that one... it is always packed out. Opens at 4:00 PM and there is a line! Enjoy your trip!
