It is open during daylight hours. There are no gates to keep people out but there are a few cameras for safety and security reasons. There are signs that ask people to stay off during poor weather but again it is not overseen by employees.

What are the posted ages for children to go in the castle?

I don't remember a posted age limit. I saw ones as young as 3 going in with their parents. Our 5 year old grand daughter had a blast going up and down the slide.
